World of Tanks: Kpz.Pr. 68 (P) commander's review

Hello comrades,

Today, we will take a closer look at a unique medium German tank that was available in the Battle Pass during the Mirny 13 event. In this article, we will discuss what this machine is and whether you should consider waiting to buy it in the future.

Basic Characteristics

Pluses:

Upon first inspection of this tank, I was very impressed, and my initial thought was that it is a new powerhouse. The tank features a 120mm cannon, a pretty sizable caliber for a medium tank. Its basic shells boast a respectable penetration rate of 230mm, while its premium shells offer 300mm. With an aiming time of 0.33, which can be nicely improved with extra ration, Brothers in Arms, and improved ventilation, accuracy is commendable. Speed is also a notable positive aspect of the tank. Additionally, its view range is a solid 390m and can be further increased. Finally, the hydropneumatic suspension is a unique feature. While the tank itself has poor depression angles, the hydropneumatic suspension can increase them to playable numbers. This tank also boasts a unique and beautiful camouflage with special effects when under fire.

Minuses:

Upon closer inspection, I realized that this tank is not as good as I initially thought. While it boasts solid damage per shot, the reloading time is just infinite—about 11 seconds in my configuration. Additionally, the aiming time is not comfortable, and any rotation will cause the aiming circle to cover the entire screen. The tank lacks armor, and ricochets are very rare. Considering that the tank is meant to be a sniper, it has poor camouflage, and standing in bushes for the entire match is not a viable option for this machine. Light tanks like the Manticore or EBR 105 will detect you without any problem. The hydropneumatic suspension works strangely; sometimes, you need to come to almost a full stop because this mechanic refuses to react and provide its benefits. Lastly, there's a subjective feeling I have about the distribution of shells in the aiming circle. For some reason, shells fly off target 3 out of 5 times, either digging into the ground or flying above your aim.

Recommended Equipment

Necessary:

  1. Gun Rammer: Increases reloading rate.
  2. Vertical Stabilizer: Helps improve aiming time slightly.
  3. Extra Ration: Slightly improves aiming and reloading time.

Optional:

  1. Improved Aiming: Boosts your accuracy significantly.
  2. Improved Ventilation: Improves the general comfort of playing.
  3. Turbocharger: Helps increase speed, especially on soft terrains.
  4. Low Noise Exhaust System: Could increase your survivability by enhancing camouflage rating.

Conclusion and Ranking

The Kpz.Pr. 68 (P) appears promising on paper with its high damage per shot. However, in practice, it proves to be a very complicated tank. It falls short compared to tanks like the STB-1, despite sharing similar mechanics. It doesn't quite match up to the Kunze Panzer either. Playing this tank doesn't evoke positive feelings, especially when the damage output feels underwhelming. Even with an average damage of 400, it doesn't feel as impactful as expected. I would recommend this tank only to collectors or those who already have other effective premium tanks in their garage.

Firepower: 5/10
